Local Employment

Local employment is key to local content. Citizens who live close to operations are often sold a story of high-paying jobs by politicians and others, although this might not be the full story, and local employment is often viewed as a license to work in a community by a company. Examples are given of project areas where this has occurred. There are three types of employment impact: direct, indirect, and induced, which are explained in detail. One of the challenges faced by governments is how to measure employment. Education, capacity-building, experience, and human development are all issues that need to be addressed in employment. The case of Trinidad and Tobago is explored here to examine local content policies.
