In this chapter, Steffen Fritz talks about the need to reduce uncertainties in global land-use information. Information about global pressure points can be retrieved using remote sensing information, but there is massive uncertainty. There s also competition for cropland among food, feed, and biofuels, and disagreement about trends in forestry due to disagreements in definitions of forestry and available cropland. Professor Fritz gives an example of crowd-sourcing software used to examine whether marginal land exists or not and to make wilderness maps, among other purposes with this type of high frequency data collection.
