This chapter focuses on achieving the SDGs at a national level, and how national efforts can contribute to global efforts. He argues that national SDG strategies are essentially backcasting exercises, with the SDGs and the targets they aim to achieve by 2030 are considered end points from which countries plan backwards to their efforts in the current day. He notes that national plans must carefully contextualize the SDGs for the country in question given differences in social, economic, environmental, and political realities in each country.
